The SC School Improvement Council was first established in South Carolina law over three decades ago to provide the member training, technical assistance, statutory accountability, and other resources vital to the continued success of community-based School Improvement Councils in each of the state’s 1,100-plus K-12 public schools.

East Point met with the council recently.  Below are the minutes:

February 2012 SIC Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Irene Albritton, Kim Hadley, Joan Hoffman, Moryah Jackson, Catie Martin, Renee Mathews

   

Survey results were 57% for a voluntary uniform policy; 42% for a mandatory uniform policy - parents will be notified that the results were in and being passed onto the Board. Due to the increase in enrollment, SIC will survey parents again during the 2012-2013 school year.
    Open enrollment closed with 164 students enrolled! There are wait lists for some grades and openings in others.
    The SIC calendar will be posted to the EPA website - SIC meetings will be held the first Monday of every month at 5:30pm. Approved SIC Minutes will be provided to the school webmaster for display on the EPA website. SIC contact information will also be provided on the EPA site.
    The staff work room will function as the computer lab for the students. Computer Lab will be provided as a related art for the 3rd grade. Computer donations are needed. Additionally, e-Reader donations would be appreciated for electronic textbooks.
    A summer program will be offered and will run from June through August.
    EPA may begin a Lego Club as an afterschool offering.
    The next SIC meeting will be held 03/05/12 at 5:30pm. Teachers from each grade will speak to the SIC and the Charter goals will be reviewed (time permitting).

January 2012 SIC Meeting Minutes

January 09, 2012

Attendees: Irene Albritton, Lewis Gulbrandsen, Kim Hadley, Joan Hoffman, Moryah Jackson, Catie Martin, Renee Mathews, Karen Utter (SC SIC Representative)

    Uniform surveys will close 01/11/12. Results will be forwarded to the Board.
    Board level facilities discussions are underway in anticipation of increased student enrollment.
    The FBI has adopted East Point as their selected school for mentoring and education programs.
    Student COGAT test results are being reviewed. Additional student testing will occur later in the school year. Testing is being conducted for 1st and 2nd graders.
    A new class, Creative Writing, will be offered for 5K and older students.
    The 1st grade class will be expanded to two separate classes to accommodate class size.
    Donations are needed to help cover travel expenses for the staff trip to China this summer. Sky Miles donations would be helpful in covering the cost for the teachers. A foundation may be set up for general monetary donations.
    A representative from the SC SIC - Karen Utter - attended our meeting to discuss the expectations, responsibilities and best practices of school improvement councils in our state,

The next SIC meeting will be held 02/06/12 at 5:30pm.
